On Thursday, October 9, the University of Michigan’s Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (CIPE) marked a decade of transforming how students, educators, and clinicians learn, lead, and practice together. The 10-Year Anniversary Celebration at the Michigan League brought together faculty, staff, and learners from across the university’s three campuses and Michigan Medicine to reflect on CIPE’s progress, honor the 2025 IPE Awards recipients, and look ahead to the future of interprofessional practice and education. The day’s theme, Healing Through Teamwork, Connection, and Relationships, was evident in every session.

At birth, Larry Prout Jr. was diagnosed with spina bifida, short bowel syndrome and other complex conditions. Now 24 and having undergone over 115 surgeries and care from more than 15 clinical teams at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, Larry’s life has become a testament to his own resilience and the power of interprofessional care.

Chloe has completed her Michigan Medicine Administrative Fellowship, where she dedicated her second-year immersion to working with the Center. She will soon transition to the next phase of her professional journey as she begins medical school at Duke University, a significant step that reflects her continued commitment to leadership, learning, and service in health care.

Representing a wide range of disciplines, campuses, and educational approaches, CIPE team members delivered a series of presentations and workshops that positioned U-M as a front-runner in interprofessional education (IPE) on the national stage.

The Center for Interprofessional Education is thrilled to welcome Amy Buckenmeyer as our Director of Interprofessional Community Engagement.

As a Rackham Intern Fellow, Kason worked with the Michigan Center for Interprofessional Education for the past semester. With a background in teaching organic chemistry, Kason supported projects that explore how health profession students build interprofessional skills.

Lisa Martin, Ph.D. is a Professor at the University of Michigan Dearborn joint appointments in Women’s and Gender Studies and Health & Human Services.

Michelle Pardee (U-M School of Nursing) co-developed the Interprofessional Community Health Collaborative (ICHC). The group gives students and faculty a variety of opportunities to work collaboratively across different health professions, providing requested and needed health education to members of the local community.

Erin is a passionate leader in interprofessional collaboration, bringing heart, vision, and deep respect to every team she joins. From ICU to pediatric dialysis, she’s championed creative, team-based solutions that center patients and families.
