Center for Interprofessional Education signature

Engagement

As part of its strategic vision, the Center for Interprofessional Education is dedicated to building a thriving community of practitioners, educators, and scholars. The goal is to create a shared space where participants regularly convene to exchange ideas, troubleshoot challenges, and learn from one another’s experiences.

Interprofessional Community Health Collaborative (ICHC)

The Interprofessional Community Health Collaborative (ICHC) is committed to expanding interprofessional education into community health settings, fostering meaningful connections between students and local communities. This initiative bridges academic learning with real-world impact, promoting collaboration among healthcare disciplines while addressing community health needs.

This year, dietetic students joined forces with their peers in medicine, pharmacy, and nursing to deliver educational programs and health screening events for community members. These efforts not only enhance student learning but also create lasting benefits for the communities they serve.

IPE/IPC Community of Practice

The IPE/IPC Community of Practice brings together faculty, staff, and learners dedicated to advancing interprofessional education (IPE) and interprofessional collaborative practice (IPC) at the University of Michigan. This dynamic network fosters connection, knowledge-sharing, and innovation to enhance teamwork across the health professions.

Through regular events, discussions, and collaborative projects, members engage in meaningful dialogue on best practices, challenges, and emerging trends in interprofessional education and healthcare. The Community of Practice serves as a space for professionals to learn from one another, develop new approaches, and build a shared commitment to improving team-based care.

Whether you are an educator, clinician, researcher, or learner, this community provides a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, gain insights, and contribute to the ongoing transformation of interprofessional teamwork at Michigan Medicine and beyond.

Upcoming Meetings are 12pm-2pm at Palmer Commons on the University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus:

Interprofessional Students: Innovating. Collaborating. Leading. (ISICL)

The Center for Interprofessional Education is launching an exciting new initiative: Interprofessional Students: Innovating. Collaborating. Leading. (ISICL)—a student leadership development program designed to empower future health professionals. This selective, one-year program will provide hands-on leadership training, personalized mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities to students from all ten health science schools.

Set to begin with a pre-program kickoff in April 2025, ISICL will include one-on-one mentorship with IPE leadership, guest speakers, and structured sessions focused on innovation, collaboration, and leadership. With a manageable workload of 5-6 hours per month, students will meet twice monthly in person starting in September. Participants will gain valuable skills, a built-in professional network, a certificate of completion, and the opportunity to showcase their work through presentations and publications.

Applications are now open and close March 12. Students must submit a resume/CV and a self-reflection based in ISICL’s three pillars. ISICL is open to current health science students from UM Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint with a strong commitment to interprofessional learning. Students can access details about the program and the application through this link.

Growing the IPE Movement

As part of its strategic vision, the Center for Interprofessional Education is dedicated to building a thriving community of practitioners, educators, and scholars. The goal is to create a shared space where participants regularly convene to exchange ideas, troubleshoot challenges, and learn from one another’s experiences.

To support this growth, upcoming initiatives include facilitator workshops aimed at enhancing the skills of those leading interprofessional education efforts, as well as a new program introducing IPE concepts to non-student participants, planned for February. These efforts underscore the Center's commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration across the interprofessional education landscape.
